Arthrosamid is a is an injectable hydrogel (nonbiodegradable) which intends to provide long lasting pain relief and improve mobility for people with osteoarthritis of the knee.
Arthrosamid is a combination of sterile water (97.5% and 2.5% cross-linked Polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide is not absorbed by the body and becomes a permanent part of the soft tissue inside of the knee.

Steroid works by reducing inflammation for a period of time. Hyaluronic acid works as a temporary lubricant in the joint.
Arthrosamid integrates with the the joint capsule (also known as the synovial membrane). It then thickens the synovial membrane, which creates a cushioning effect around the joint. This then helps to reduce stiffness and friction and thus reduces pain and improves function.

As Arthrosamid permanently binds to the joint, generally only one dose is required. Many other injections will degrade and or be absorbed, and therefore this might require repeat injections.
Clinical data has shown that the effect of Arthrosamid can last for a number of years. This is a good option for dose who have tried other ways to manage the knee osteoarthritis i.e. physiotherapy and exercise and are not so keen to opt for knee joint replacement surgery.
Arthrosamid is generally recommended for those with mild to moderate osteoarthritic changes. It is best for those who still have some joint cartilage left and have not had significant benefit from regular conservative treatment.
